Maud Macrory Powell is a writer, farmer, speaker, facilitator, and a Professor for Oregon State University’s Small Farms program.

For over 25 years, Maud and her husband have owned and operated Wolf Gulch Farm, a small diversified vegetable and seed farm in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon. After making the difficult decision to relocate their farm due to persistent drought, Maud was inspired to start the Climate Stress and Grief: Building Resilience in Farmers and Ranchers project at Oregon State University. The project is one of the firsts of its kind and has received national attention.

Maud travels throughout Oregon and the U.S. to provide workshops to people specifically affected by the changing climate, particularly those who work closely with natural systems.Maud has written articles and essays for publications including Health Affairs Insider, Greenhorns: 50 Dispatches from the New Farmers’ Movement, Oregon Humanities Magazine, Reckoning, and Environment: Science and Policy for Sustainable Development. Her debut middle grade historical novel, City of Grit and Gold was published by Allium Press in 2017. Additionally, she writes for, directs, and produces community theatre with the Little Apple Players.
